An empty cross,

a risen King,

from death's dark womb

new life does spring;

for though the cross

did  slay the lamb,

death lost the fight

to the great I AM.

That once foreboding

fate that loomed,

was swallowed

in a victory tune,

that Jesus sang

with angels fair

in that sweet Easter

morning air,

"Come rise with Me

and live anew;

receive My Word

for I AM true.

Rise high and free

from death and sin;

repent, believe,

be born again."

Stunningly, convincing bronze castings of J. Christopher White's juniper and mesquite wooden crosses.

     I make quite a few crosses, each one of them is unique and different. Hours of hunting for the right shape wood begins the process. After harvesting the juniper wood for the crosses I move down to the canyon floors to hunt curved and twisted pieces of mesquite for the back drops and bases. Often the mesquite is blackened with age and this darker wood contrasts very well with the golden juniper

     Since demand for my crosses is so high I chose two outstanding crosses and had them cast in bronze. The patiniere has done an extraordinary job in finishing the pieces to look like the old weathered wood. All in all, they have the durability and timelessness of bronze and uniquely interesting forms and textures of wood. Truly a great blend.

     In the picture to the right can you tell which is the bronze cross and which is wood??? The difference between the wood and bronze cross is nearly imperceptible due to the artist's ability to take the wood deep into the bronze sculpture, and the skill of the patiniere to reproduce the weathered grays of rough wood. The difference in color and texture of the woods translates beautifully into bronze. One of the advantages of bronze over wood is it's durability and the advantage of being able to display the artwork outside if desired.
