Parrot a phrase,

can that make you whole:

do syllables spoken

or deeds save your soul?

You know all the words,

and the movements as well,

but the reasons they're spoken

you can't even tell.

They hold no true meaning

so you would never conceive

of doing these things

you say you believe

and can't understand a

 man's fervent desire

to leave the things of this world

for those unseen that are higher

Pity the parrot,

though he speaks and is heard,

no one truly listens

to the thoughts of a bird.
