Bronze      Height of girl 39"     Height of kite and flowers 75"

Kite and flowers were designed and fabricated by David Richardson.

Skylar's Wings

Skylar was a very little girl who was born with a heart defect and many other health issues.  She received a heart transplant as an infant and struggled to the age of eight with her body's rejecting of the new heart.  All her brief life she was very limited in what she could do physically, many of the simple joys of a healthy child were restricted to make believe for her.
One of her favorite pastimes was to imagine traveling on her magic red kite.  She and her family would go and do, in their imaginations, what her many health problems prevented her from doing.

This poem and sculpture of her serve to remind the family of the awesome life she now lives in heaven with Jesus, where all is purest joy and glory.

Skylar's Wings

On my kite, my heart would fly
to places high and rare,
together we could see the world,
all of us were there.

We'd run and dance on snowy peaks
or walk the sands by water blue,
on my kite, there was no limit,
of the things to see and do.

But I never could imagine
a place could be this grand,
until Jesus came that day
and took me by the hand.

And now, I really can fly,
I don't even need a kite,
anywhere my mind can go,
my feet can now alight.

I now live life abundantly,
as it was meant to be,
living in the light of joy,
with Jesus next to me.

So when you see a kite
or the wind blow strong and free,
remember there's no happier
little girl than me.
