Bronzewood Eagle  August '05      H 9",W 13", D8"

Bronzewood meld,bronze and west

Texas juniper on a mesquite base.

Purpose of the Wings 2

Out of the flames of affliction

I brought you at great length;

I bare you upon eagle's wings

over trials beyond your strength.

I did it for one reason,

to bring you unto Me.

Your eyes look on my promises,

but their fullfillment you can't see.

Your heart longs for the meager crumbs

of a kingdom cold and dark,

and cannot see the banquet

prepared inside My heart.

Communion with the most High God,

true abandon in His love,

is the feast the Lamb provided

when He shed for us His blood

and allowed us to come unto Him,

the purpose of the wings

He supplies through revelation

and the joy repentance brings.

about "Bronzewood"

This sculpture was originally done in wood, a mold was made and the piece was subsequently cast in bronze.  (Click here to see original in wood). Somewhere between mold and bronze, while in the wax state of the process, this golden eagle was melded with a piece of weathered mesquite.  The melding process makes it difficult for the viewer to distinguish wood from bronze.  The patina or coloration on the bronze is done to match both wood tones and weathered greys.  The base of the piece is made from west Texas juniper burl.  The patina of the wing tip reflects the golden hues of the original juniper wood thus tying all three elements of juniper, mesquite and bronze together.

Th poem which accompanies this sculpture speaks of the reason God works in our lives, why He has chosen to enter into the realm of mankind at all.  The reason, to bring us unto Himself and have an intimate relationship with us.
