Diligence

Diligence, submission, perseverance,
faith, and aim,
all components of the race,
their source and goal the same.

These all are fruits of discipline
they are also gifts of grace,
all given for one reason
to keep our eyes on Jesus' face.

The battle is for the eyes,
the reigns of heart and mind,
straying eyes can fix on lies
and be possessed by what they find.

Not too far from Jesus' feet
an enemy does wait,
to lure us into battle,
should we turn and take the bait.

To take our eyes off Jesus,
to then focus on a 'right'
to touch, possess, or covet
the fruit within our sight.

Yet faith sees the invisible
and never lets it go,
it's source and goal the same
the One we seek to know.
