This
bowl is the work of Bill Aber. Bill initially took my class to
learn movement and created some beautiful fluid mounts for his
turned vessels. He returned to class the following spring with
two vessels he had turned, with the intent of putting some
carving into them. We decided to make the vessels open reliefs,
one with a trout left floating in the design and one with a bird
in flight. This piece is the third in a series Bill is creating,
which he calls "Fish Bowls". Bill turned this vessel out of
Hack-berry after he took my class, and did an excellent job
applying the principles of movement in his unique design. 
I
have another student Mike Krueger that has done a fantastic
piece out of a large Aspen burl, he too started by turning a
vessel and bringing it to class. The carving on it is not open
relief, but deep fluting on both the outside and inside of the
vessel, he is currently in the process of mounting it where it
can be viewed from all sides.
