Winner Lose All

 There are three crayfish in this sculpture. Each one is carved out of the same extremely rare piece of rippled juniper as the fish. Crayfish number one, prominently perched on the mesquite base, is holding on to what is left of number two. Number two is carved in place in the mouth of the fish. Number three is seen leaving the scene below the fish. The base is sculpted from mesquite.

Seeking to gain
His place in the pond,
Holding on to a �right,�
And then he was gone.

A fatal mistake
He made in the fight, His
move toward pre-eminence
Put him out in plain sight.

Then an enemy worse
Than the one with the claws
Was the very last sight
This �winner� saw...
 

...As we cling to our rights
Seeking to win
Our spot on this planet,
We get swallowed by sin,

And have really nothing
To show for our pains,
As we lose what�s eternal
In our temporal gains.
