To showcase this exquisite sculpture, Chris ultimately decided to install it on a large 7' base of juniper and alabaster creating an entirely new perspective. Chris will be writing an update very soon for the "Carver's Corner" , about the difference that a base can make in a successful sculpture.

Newsletter, July 2006 J. CHRISTOPHER WHITE Parables In Wood
This time of the year always finds me very busy preparing for Sculpture in the Park here in Loveland. This year it will be held August 12th and 13th....for those that will be attending, please stop by and say "Howdy". The piece pictured at right is called "Melody of Flight" and I will be finishing it up in time for the August show. At the show I will also have a new edition of "Determined" as a bronzewood meld, an alabaster heart on a mesquite base, "Childhood Heart", a small wooden Dolphin, five wooden crosses from the "Victory Tune" Series, a bronze horse head, "Dilligence" , and also a bronzewood meld and a bronzewood in the "Purpose of the Wings Series" I had the recent privilege of participating in the 36th Annual Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition in Ocean City, MD the largest bird carving competition in the world. I am both humbled and happy to report that my sculpture, 'Midstream Reflection', (pictured left) a Hooded Merganser Duck captured first place in the top category, world class division, for interpretive wood sculpture. The 32' long, 22' wide and 12' high sculpture will be on display for one year at the Ward Museum ' Salisbury University in Salisbury Maryland. The museum boasts of having the most extensive collection of carved birds in t.
Many of you have been asking about a 2007 Calendar. I am happy to report that work has begun on the 2007 Calendar and it will be available in the fall. The response to the calendars has been very encouraging. "Midstream Reflection" seemed the obvious choice for the cover and their will be 11 new sculptures with poetry featured throughout the year. We had excellent reviews and comments on the photo show put to music and poetry that I had done for "Final Kiss". If you have not already seen it you may do so by clicking here. I hope to have another one produced this fall showing a step by step on one of my sculptures....stay tuned! I will be going to Texas the third week of August to harvest wood. If you have a sculpture in mind that you would like to commission me to do please contact me at parables@jchristopherwhite.com so that I can find the appropriate piece of juniper. Chris |
