Greetings,
Summer is gone and so is most of fall, winter is definitely scratching on
the
door in Colorado, so I guess I'll just call it good carving weather and be
thankful.
It has been a while since I last wrote, so here is a recount of late summer
and fall.
Sculpture in the Park was a huge success again this year, it always is.
Personally, it was a very good show for me as well. In addition to that, I
really enjoy seeing so many friends and visiting with all you art loving
people. The time during the show goes too fast it seems, but like I said, I
sure enjoy it.
Classes this year were a real treat for me, mainly
because I was able to stay home on the last three. I enjoy teaching
where ever I am, but the classes here, at my home studio in Loveland, are
just more laid back. I think the main difference is the number of students.
My studio will hold only four, my class in Red Deer had thirteen students.
Yikes, talk about spreading ones self too thin. I have decided to limit my
teaching this year to just four classes here in beautiful Loveland, CO. I am
going this route for several reasons:
1. The students get a better deal by having my time spread out over 3 to 4
students versus 10 to 13 students.
2. There is a greater selection of wood for students (and I don't have to
charge
the students for boxing and shipping it).
3. The student's get to eat my wife's wonderful healthy cooking for lunch
each
day.
4. If the student's are still standing at the end of the day, Loveland is a
great
place to visit. There is lots of shopping, the Sculpture Park, nearby Estes
Park and Rocky Mountain National Park as well as plenty of other things to
see and do (spouses have enjoyed the time in Colorado as well).
5. I don't have to travel and spend 2 days in airports.
The class schedule for 2007 is above in the left margin
I
have completed several sculptures this year, many are featured in the
2007 Calendar (which is available for
$12.95 plus s/h). Others are featured in this email. I am currently
working on several commissions.
In October, I was able to spend 3 days alone in the canyons of West Texas
and collected a lot of great wood. In that wood I see many beautiful
sculptures which can be made. I have an otter, marlin, several unique
birds and lots of awesome delicate pieces for bronzewood melds. So, if
anyone is interested in fine wood sculptures, I am certain we can find
just the right idea and piece of wood to make it out of. If you act fast,
I still have a little space in my schedule for a small sculpture (maybe a
Christmas gift).
Speaking
of Christmas gifts, we are running a special on my illustrated book,
"Parables in Wood", to
include free shipping and handling for books ordered before Christmas. The
price is $34.95 and I would be more than happy to sign it for whomever you
buy it for. Also, don't forget the Calendars
are available. They make a good Christmas gift as well (1-$12.95,
2-$25.00, 10-$10.00 each).
Thank you for your continued interest in my work. I would love to hear
from you. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, we all have much to thank God for
this year. And have a Blessed Christmas, remembering that "Unto to us a
Savior is born" and spend some time with that
awesome Savior this season, after all "knowing Him, Jesus Christ,
is eternal life."
